Can I buy Energy “Q”™ at Home Depot or Lowes?

No, Energy “Q”™ is a trademarked product and is not distributed through any channel unless they are authorized dealers.

My attic has tricky parts. Is it OK to staple Energy “Q”™ up in some areas and lay it on the floor in others?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ can be stapled to the rafters, but the best application is to be laid over the existing insulation and stapled to all walls that enter to the living air conditioned spaces.

If I can’t cover my entire attic area, will Energy “Q”™ still help?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ will benefit where ever the material is applied. Something is better than nothing.

I’m getting a new roof installed. Can I install Energy “Q”™ between my shingles and my roof deck?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ has been applied under or over the felt, prior to shingle application as well as metal roof applications for over 15 years without any issues.

Is Energy “Q”™ the same stuff that was developed by NASA?

No, Energy “Q”™ is not the same material but a spin-off of the NASA technology implementing the same principles. Energy “Q”™  radiant barrier has been written in articles by NASA Spin-Off magazines and other NASA publications to educate the public or the product and the many uses.

Will the Energy “Q”™ be more effective if I install it in between the rafters then directly across the roof rafters?

If possible, Energy “Q”™ is best to be applied across the roof rafters  instead of between the roof rafters to have maximum coverage and eliminate the 2” joist space between the rafters but will still work if applied in between the roof rafters. It would be better applied in whole sheets across the roof rafters for maximum coverage, but the best and most effective application in an existing home is to apply the Energy “Q”™ directly over the existing insulation.

Will the Energy “Q”™ affect my WIFI and cell phone reception?

If the individual already has issues, the Energy “Q”™ will make it more noticeable, but the signal still isn’t affected that much. We have installed in 1000’s of new home where we wrapped the entire interior (walls and ceilings) and didn’t have calls from clients about WIFI and cell phone issues. If applied in an area with no exposed windows, Energy “Q”™ does affect WIFI and cell phones.

Can I install Energy “Q”™ in walls too?

Yes. We recommend applying Energy “Q”™ to the walls.

Can drywall be applied on top of the Energy “Q”™ ?

Yes, we have applied the Energy “Q”™ behind drywall for almost 30 years and an independent case study for Energy “Q”™ showed up to a 36% utility savings.

Can I use Energy “Q”™ in place of traditional insulation?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ can but building codes will not allow it since Energy “Q”™ doesn’t meet the requirements because the material doesn’t have an R-Value. If the home is existing, then we recommend there is no need to add more insulation. The Energy “Q”™ will block 97% with or without insulation.

What is the R-value of Energy “Q”™ ?

Energy “Q”™ doesn’t have an R-Value however has an “E” rating, (Emissivity Rating), of 3%.

Can I apply Energy “Q”™ to my garage door to help with the heat?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ will perform great reducing the heat transfer through the garage door up to 40 degrees.

If I lay the Energy “Q”™ on the attic floor can I blow more insulation on top of it?

Yes, however, we recommend when Energy “Q”™ is applied there is no need to blow more insulation.

How much should I expect to pay to have Energy “Q”™ installed?

Energy “Q”™ installation is based on the difficulty of the application and will vary.

I already have the radiant barrier paint on my roof deck; can I also add Energy “Q”™ ?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ will be noticed by clients when applied over the insulation. It reflects 97% of the radiant heat transfer keeping it from entering the living air-conditioned space rather than cooling the attic in the summer. The extra bonus on the flip-side in the winter is it stop 97% heat loss from your living heated space. The paint doesn’t solve anything at all. Not to mention Energy “Q”™  is non-toxic like the paint when applied. Most cases, if you install the radiant barrier paint, they will ask you to remove all small animals from your home because of the toxins from the paint.

I thought a radiant barrier needed air on both sides, is that true?

As for Energy “Q”™ , NO. The trademarked Energy “Q”™ is manufactured with a thermal break created within the 5-layer system and has no limitation to where it can be applied. Yes, that is true depending on the radiant barrier material. ALL radiant barrier are different and not the same. Some have limitations for application for effectiveness because of the materials used to manufacture.

Will Energy “Q”™ cause roof shingles to deteriorate?

Over the past 15 years, Energy “Q”™ has been applied to the roof systems and there have been no issues with deterioration or damage to performance with the shingles.

Does dust affect the performance of Energy “Q”™ in a residential attic?

NO. Energy “Q”™  is not affected much and still performs well even with 12” of insulation over the material as shown in an independent case study by a major national builder. Yes, that is true for many other radiant barrier because as mentioned before, all radiant barriers are different and not the same.

Can rodents chew on Energy “Q”™?

Yes, but most animals don’t like chewing through Energy “Q”™ since it is aluminum.

Does their need to be an air pocket in between concrete tilt walls and sheet rock?  Should we use bubble wrap or foil?

Energy “Q”™ has been applied placing many types of material directly over it and and works well. Some people use ½” x 1” boards to create a bigger thermal break to maximize the effectiveness. You can use either our Energy “Q”™ Bubble or Excel material.

Can Energy “Q”™ be used in a sheet metal building infrastructure?

Yes, Energy “Q”™ has been placed in several metal building over the last 25+ years.
